Automation Engineering

Industrial control systems are at the core of our business at Process and Data Automation. We combine our technical training/skills, our general understanding of manufacturing, and our field experience to link our customers with real, productive automation solutions.

  • Variety of educational background
  • Time in Industry
  • Length of tenure with PDA
  • Variety of platforms and processes

However you measure “Experience”, we have the team for you.

Scalability.  Our unique size and makeup allow us to effectively tackle projects both large and small.  We have the depth of staff, strong partners, and access to capital to handle large-scale applications.  Our team can work just as effectively on smaller applications and ongoing support engagements by utilizing resources in customized configurations.

The Right Equipment For the Application

Industrial control systems are the core of our business at Process and Data Automation.  Our independence and experience allow us to leverage the right solution for our clients.  When making recommendations for control hardware and software we consider:

  • Technical requirements
  • Installed base at your site
  • Complimentary plant equipment
  • Your ability to maintain the equipment
  • Local availability of parts and technical support

The right team to apply it:

Our team has worked with the leading manufacturers’ products in a variety of scenarios.  Add to that our pre-defined and on-demand internal training schedules and our clients can rest assured that they have the most highly qualified team working with them!

The primary function of your Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) is to provide you with vision into:

  • What will be done?
  • What is currently going on?
  • What happened historically?

Our Intuitive user interfaces are designed to provide that access.  From data entry terminals, control of localized machines, to line or plant-wide oversight we design and implement HMI solutions that provide structured control for your equipment and systems.  Local displays can be scaled into plant-wide supervisory or SCADA and systems can be hosted locally or developed as a cloud-based solution with mobile connectivity options.

We work with you for the best solution!

Our flexible project methodology allows your team to be part of the development process.  You have options for milestone reviews, final system review, or a full hands-off approach.  You determine the level of interaction that will get maximum buy-in from your staff upon deployment and we will execute the project to achieve that goal!

  • Scalable solutions
  • Locally deployed or remotely hosted solutions
  • Plant or enterprise-wide visibility of all operations
  • Any combination of wired and wireless connectivity between assets or sites
  • Localized or enterprise-wide reporting solutions
  • Extensive notification systems via phone, email, and text

Instrument Specification & Integration

Control Systems are more than Controllers
A complete industrial control system requires more than just the system controller and operator interfaces. The application of technology to accurately measure field conditions such as pressure, level, flow, temperature, speeds, and more are integral to a system’s ability to deliver the desired control results.

PDA Engineers are more than Controller Programmers
Our staff and partners can evaluate your process and environmental conditions to determine instruments and measuring devices are required.  We can assist with specification, procurement, installation guidance, and factory verification of proper installation and performance. We can provide verification and documentation that a system’s field instruments are operating properly stand-alone and through to the controller and supervisory systems.

Process Design

If Process Design is what you need, PDA has you covered!

  • Complete Turnkey Process Systems
  • Mass Balance and Production Timing Analysis
  • Process Flow Diagram Development
  • Process and Instrumentation Diagrams
  • Process Equipment Layout Drawings
  • Equipment Specification, Bid Support, and Procurement
  • Process Equipment Installation Support
  • Technical Support during System Installation and Commissioning
  • Training and Support

Equipment Retrofits

Not every automation project is a full-scale new line.

  • Is old control equipment costing you money in downtime?
  • Is otherwise serviceable equipment causing problems electrically?
  • Are you having difficulty finding parts for your controllers, sensors, or related PCs?
  • Do you need better data collection, reporting, or analytics?

If your answer to any of these questions is “yes” then Process and Data Automation can help you! Whether part of a long-term automation strategy or as a stand-alone effort we can upgrade your equipment to a current, stable operating platform that will provide worry-free operation for years to come.

FEED Studies

The FEED is basic engineering which comes after the Conceptual design or Feasibility study. The FEED design focuses the automation systems technical requirements as well as rough investment cost for the project. A good FEED will reflect all of the client’s project-specific requirements and avoid significant changes during the execution phase. During the FEED phase, there is close communication between Project Owners and Operators and the Engineering Contractor to work up the project-specific requirements.

Front-End Engineering focuses on technical requirements and identifying main costs for a proposed project. It is used to establish a price for the execution phase of the project and evaluate potential risk and is typically followed by Detailed Design (or Detailed Engineering). The amount of time invested in Front-End Engineering is higher than a traditional quote because project specifications are thoroughly extracted and the following are elements that are typically developed in detail:

  • Project Scope
  • Major equipment list
  • Automation strategy
  • Process Flow Diagrams
  • Project timeline
  • Fixed-bid quote
