Controls Technician Level 1

Reports To: Engineering Manager Department: Engineering

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Job Summary/Objective/Role:

Under the general direction of Project Managers and Controls Engineers, the Controls Technician Level 1 serves as a member of a cross-functional project team and has responsibility to execute tasks on Projects, Professional Service Contracts and Service Calls. This position is responsible to support the engineering, design, integration, programming, and troubleshooting of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), control instrumentation/components, and Industrial Networks for systems.

Requirements:

  1. Associate’s degree in an accredited engineering discipline, technical school degree/certificate in an electrical-related program, or have at least 2 years of equivalent experience.

Essential Functions:

  1. Analyze and troubleshoot existing automation and control
  2. Support other engineers to verify design aspects are
  3. Develop detailed system documentation for the construction and installation of key system
    • Understand fundamentals of electrical drawing sets and demonstrate proficiency in reviewing and completing drawing markups.
    • Edit drawing sets under the direction of Controls Designers
    • Create project documentation under direction of others (IO lists, FATs/SATs, )
    • Support equipment and system submittal
  4. PLC and HMI programming:
    • Obtain general knowledge with control system (PLC)
    • Obtain general knowledge with supervisory (HMI/SCADA)
  5. Configure/startup support of industrial control equipment to include:
    • PLCs/HMIs
    • Drives
    • Variety of instrumentation
  6. On-site support for design reviews, installation, start-up, and
  7. Provide remote technical support assistance to clients under the direction of Controls
  8. Executes functional tests under direction of other engineers after automation equipment is completed to ensure quality.
  9. Support project team on startup verifications (FAT/SAT documentation)
  10. Troubleshooting
    • Systems troubleshooting 480V and below
    • Instruments troubleshooting & calibration support
    • Motor Controls troubleshooting
    • General wiring and electrical troubleshooting

Physical Demands: Must possess ability to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer, and to visit various client and meeting sites; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone. Finger dexterity needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard and to operate standard office equipment. This is primarily a sedentary office classification although prolonged standing and walking and the ability to climb ramps, stairs, and ladders may be required when traveling or on client site. May occasionally require the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 40 pounds or heavier weights with assistance and/or the use of proper equipment.
