Controls Engineer Level 2

Job Summary/Objective/Role:

Under the general direction of the Engineering Manager, Project Managers, and Senior Engineers, the Controls Engineer Level 2 serves as a member of a cross-functional project team. As a member of a cross-functional project team, the role has responsibility to independently execute tasks and project initiatives.

Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for the engineering, design, integration, programming, and troubleshooting of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), control instrumentation/components, and Industrial Networks for systems to support productivity and/or quality improvements for our clients. Additional responsibilities include training Level 1 Controls Engineers, advising PMs/others on technical requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Four-year bachelor’s degree in an accredited engineering discipline or have at least have 4 years of equivalent experience.
  2. Minimum 3-5 years of food and beverage manufacturing experience or comparable experience with a systems integrator.
  3. Travel

Essential Functions:

  1. Evaluate, analyze, and troubleshoot existing automation and control
  2. Interpret detailed specifications for automation and control
  3. System Design: Research, understand, and specify/apply commercially available control hardware and instrumentation.
  4. System Design: Ability to evaluate and select control system strategies to meet clients’ needs. This involves matching technology to project needs and existing plant systems.
  5. Coordinate with other engineers and equipment suppliers to ensure design intent and cost effectiveness of delivery are achieved.
  6. Develop detailed system documentation for the construction and installation of key system
    • Understand fundamentals of electrical drawing sets and demonstrate proficiency in reviewing and completing drawing markups.
    • Create project documentation (IO lists, RAILs, FATs/SATs, SOWs, FDS, )
    • Write operations manuals at the direction of Electrical Manager and/or Project
    • Support equipment and system submittal
  1. PLC and HMI programming:
    • Proficiency with multiple control system (PLC)
    • Proficiency with multiple supervisory (HMI/SCADA) packages, both general graphics/interface and advanced software capabilities.
  2. Configure/startup of industrial control equipment to include:
    • Drives and/or servos
    • Variety of instrumentation
  3. Demonstrate strong understanding with Ethernet Network design and deployment including hardware, software, and security.
  4. On-site support of for design reviews, consultancy, installation, start-up, and
  5. Provide remote assistance for client with technical support to meet lead time and quality of client‘s requests.
  6. Executes functional tests after automation equipment is completed to ensure
  7. Startup Verifications (FAT/SAT documentation).
  8. Provide training to Controls Engineer 1 individuals
